There’s no doubt about it—parenting is hard. Athens Parent Wellbeing, a local nonprofit, has one approach to lightening the load. Each month, they host two free wellness walks, where parents and babies can socialize and exercise together.

WUGA’s Emma Auer trekked around Athens with a group of new moms, and on the way discovered the legislative battle being waged behind the scenes to promote postpartum wellbeing. Here’s that story.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
