Several deadlines for voters who plan to cast a ballot in this November’s election are coming up.
Clarke County residents who plan to vote this year and need to register or change their address must do so by October 7th. Early voting starts soon after on October 15th and ends on November 1st.
Voters who can’t make it to the polls have until October 25th to apply for an absentee ballot. Applications for absentee ballots can be found online and returned to the Elections Office by mail, email, or in person.
Charlotte Sosebee, Director of Elections and Voter Registration in Clarke County, says that independent organizations may also send absentee ballot applications to residents’ mail boxes, which can lead to confusion.
“We’re getting calls here in the office from our voters and they’re inquiring if they’re legit, and that’s the best thing to do. It’s best to call our office to verify.”
Voters are able to use those absentee ballot applications from independent organizations, as long they have a disclaimer on them.
“That disclaimer simply says this is not a ballot, this is an absentee application.”
Sosebee adds that voters who hope to check on their registration status should call the Elections Office at 706-613-3150.
