On November 5th, a high profile local race is on the ballot—District Attorney. Incumbent District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez is running once more for her position, and says that educating the public about her role is a top priority.
“One of the challenges that we’ve always faced is education. People don’t know what the DA actually does. People don’t know the criminal legal system or the procedure of how these cases go through the system.”
She says that if reelected, she’ll focus on reforming the justice system to allow people convicted of crimes a chance at a meaningful life.
“You talk to most people, even most defendants, they say ‘Yeah, I want to be held accountable, I want to pay my dues. But then after that I want to be able to live a life.’”
