President Joe Biden increased the amount of federal relief dollars that will be sent to Georgia to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
President Biden has increased the federal government’s share of dollars for relief efforts in Georgia to 100%. Federal funding will be available for individual and public assistance in affected counties as well as for a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program statewide.
President Biden is set to visit Georgia on Thursday to tour parts of the state effected by the hurricane. He announced Wednesday that he will deploy 1,000 active duty troops from the Defense Department to aid recovery efforts.
Vice President Kamala Harris also visited Augusta, Georgia on Wednesday, where she surveyed damage from Helene and addressed the public.
