More than 350,000 people remain without power in Georgia following Hurricane Helene. Over the four hardest hit states, of North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, over 1.3 million people have no electricity. The death toll in Georgia is now at 25 …. with at least 150 more dead in the four states.

President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for Georgia in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The action means funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be available to affected residents in 41 counties in South Georgia hit hardest by last Friday’s storm. Residents of those counties may be eligible for grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help them recover from the effects of the storm. Additionally, Governor Kemp has suspended the state’s fuel tax which effectively lowers the cost of gas and diesel by more than 30 cents a gallon.
