Tomorrow, the Athens-Clarke County Mayor & Commission will meet for a work session to consider various projects including safety improvements to Atlanta Hwy and W. Broad St. as well as alternative concept plans for street improvements to North Ave.
The work session will begin at noon with various projects planned to be discussed for future consideration and action. The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Road Safety Audit on West Broad Street; from Epps Bridge Road to Hodgson Drive, will be presented. The improvements mainly include an increase in sidewalks and street light fixtures. The mayor and commission plan to discuss a funding strategy for the project with GDOT.
The North Ave. Corridor Project, which covers Willow Street to Freeman Drive, will also be discussed with various construction alternatives and will present data collected from the 2023 public engagement surveys. Major concerns that came out of the surveys include a need for wider sidewalks, bike lanes, and better lighting, and an emphasis on the bridge over loop 10 needing bike and pedestrian facilities.
Other items on the agenda include looking at TSPLOST 2026 Pre-Designation Options, a proposal to franchise solid waste collection, and challenges regarding sanitary sewage capacity and proposed fixes.
The work session meeting will be held in the planning auditorium and is available to watch on the ACC government website.
