The candidates for the Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s race are having the first of two debates Tuesday evening. Incumbent Deborah Gonzalez and challenger Kalki Yalamanchili are facing off in a candidate forum sponsored by the Western Judicial Circuit Bar Association. The event will take place at Hill Baptist Church at 1692 Hancock Avenue in Athens at 6:30. It will be moderated by Tharon Johnson, founder and CEO of Paramount Consulting Group.
The second debate is October 22nd in the auditorium of Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center on Prince Avenue. Tim Bryant will moderate.
Yalamanchili, an independent, is running against Gonzalez in the Nov. 5 general election. He was a part of the district’s prosecutorial staff, but shortly left when she took office in 2020.
