Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to Host Unity Vigil

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is hosting a unity vigil Wednesday evening. The Unity Amid Uncertainty gathering is an interfaith vigil aimed at bridging the divide between members of the community due to the election.

“We really want to remind people that no matter the outcome of an election, we have to be together and that’s what’s most important,” According to Reverend Doctor Pippen Whittaker. She says the vigil is a way to bring neighbors together.

“As things got closer, we saw the need to have an interfaith vigil and to bring together the community, different stakeholders, so that we can remind ourselves and we can practice what it is to be a neighbor. To be there for one another in good times and hard times.”

Whittaker says she wants the event to be a source of peace for those attending.

“I hope that this is a place where people can bring all their tension, all their worries, all their uncertainty, and come together in community and see that this is what we do, this is who we are,” Whittaker said. “We are a community that is here for one another across all these different backgrounds, across all these different needs. That we show up together and that we show up for one another. No matter what happens with an outcome, no matter how divisive.”

The vigil is taking place from 7 o’ clock to 8 o’ clock this evening at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, located at 780 Timothy Road.
