Athens-Clarke County’s Mayor and Commission will meet for a work session Tuesday to discuss plans to increase the county’s water supply.
According to projections, Athens-Clarke County will increase its population by 40% in the next forty years. To increase water supply for the county, the mayor and commission are set to consider plans Tuesday to install a reservoir at the Rock Hill Quarry. The county purchased the eastside quarry in 2020, and currently projects costs for the reservoir to top $250 million.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the mayor and commission will also discuss the schematic design for the Eastside Library, which will be built on Barnett Shoals Road. The building is set to cost almost $9 million, with plans to expand it in the future. The county will seek public input on the schematic design beginning Wednesday.
