The College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame was postponed a day because of an attack in New Orleans that left 15 people dead and more than 30 people injured.
The game, originally scheduled for 8:45 p.m. Eastern Time at the 70,000-seat Superdome on Wednesday, was pushed back to 4 p.m. Thursday. The decision to postpone the game meant numerous traveling fans with tickets would not be able to attend… but all parties including ESPN, the College Football Playoff, the Southeastern Conference, The University of Georgia and one Notre Dame all agreed that it was in the best interest of public safety to postpone the game for 24 hours to ensure a safe efficient and fun environment for Thursday’s game.
The winner of today’s Sugar Bowl will advance to the CFP Orange Bowl semifinal on Thursday, Jan. 9 against No. 6 Penn State, which beat No. 3 Boise State 31-14 on Tuesday in the Fiesta Bowl.
