Winter Storm Advisory: School Closures

  • The University of Georgia - The University of Georgia will delay opening on Thursday, Jan. 23 until 10 a.m. The first in-person class for students will begin at 11:10 a.m. All dining halls are scheduled to open at 8 a.m., and Campus Transit service will begin at 10 a.m.
  • UGA Gwinett campus - will be closed tomorrow—Thursday, January 23, due to icy road conditions. Stay safe and stay warm!
  • Athens Academy - Due to continued icy conditions on many secondary roadways throughout our community, Athens Academy will be closed Thursday, January 23. All after-school activities will be canceled or postponed.
  • St. Joseph - School closed Thursday, January 23rd.
  • Athens Technical College - will delay opening until 10am on Thursday, January 23.
  • Barrow County Schools - Due to the icy conditions on secondary roads that will persist overnight and into tomorrow, the Barrow County School system will remain closed and after-school activities are cancelled for Thursday, January 23.
  • Clarke County School District - Due to poor secondary road conditions resulting from yesterday’s snowfall and in the safety interests of all students and staff, CCSD schools and district offices will be closed Thursday, January 23. In keeping with our commitment to providing quality instruction, Thursday will once again be an at-home learning day for students, and schools will provide additional information about student work expectations for the day.
  • Oconee County Schools - will resume normal operations on Thursday, Jan. 23.
  • Oglethorpe County Schools - The roads are still not safe to travel in all areas of the county. Therefore, Oglethorpe County School System will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, January 23rd. Staff will have a remote workday.
  • Jackson County Schools - Due to the severity of road conditions throughout the county, the Jackson County School System will remain closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. All extracurricular activities are also cancelled.
  • Madison County Schools - will implement an Independent Learning Day for students and a remote workday for all staff on Thursday, January 23. All buildings will be closed.
  • Double Helix STEAM School - will remain closed Thursday, January 23 as road conditions remain unsafe for travel.
  • Bethlehem Christian Academy - Due to the continued icy conditions on secondary roads in many of the areas our families travel from, BCA will remain closed on Thursday, January 23.
  • Prince Avenue Christian School - will be on a regular Chapel Day schedule for Thursday, January 23.
  • Athens Christian School - plans to be in School Thursday, January 23 with a normal schedule. If you believe it is not safe to drive to School in the morning, feel free to keep your child at home. This will be an excused absence. Make sure your student is dressed appropriately for the Cold Weather.
  • Piedmont University - Normal operations for Thursday, January 23.
  • The University of North Georgia - Normal operations for Thursday, January 23.
