Arrest made in connection to December crash, fatality

On Tuesday, the Clarke County Sheriff's office arrested John Orchard for first degree vehicular homicide, driving too close and driving under the influence.

The initial investigation reported Orchard was driving a Toyota MR2 traveling east on Macon Highway when he struck the rear of a Jeep Gladiator that had turned out of a driveway headed east. The collision resulted in the Toyota leaving the roadway, where it came to rest in a vacant lot near Garden Lane.

The driver of the Jeep, a 30 year old male, sustained minor injuries. Orchard was taken to the local hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. However, Edward Nadeau, the passenger of the Toyota, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. He was 56 years old.

This investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer First Class Teskey at Bridget.Teskey@accgov.com or 762-400-7022.
