Clarke County Board of Education held third public hearing regarding House Bill 581

On Tuesday, the Clarke County Board of Education held its last public hearing regarding House Bill 581. These public hearings allow the residents of Clarke County to voice their concerns and opinions to the board members.

Following the public hearing, members of the board must decide whether to opt out of HB 581 at their regular scheduled meeting. The meeting is set to take place on Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m.

If passed the resolution is due to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office by March 1. The measure would limit increases in property taxes to the inflation rate for the rate of inflation for the previous year. The bulk of the revenue raised by property taxes goes to school systems, which would be the most affected.
