To enhance the living experience for students, UGA will spend millions of dollars to modernize one of their residence halls, which was built in 1963.

The University of Georgia announced a $115.7 million project to renovate Creswell Hall. This project includes individual room temperature control, enhanced bathroom privacy, community spaces and more. The project is scheduled for 2027-2028.

By renovating Creswell Hall, UGA will save an estimated $54 million dollars compared to replacements cost which will help preserve University Housing reserve funds for future projects.

“We know from our renovations of Brumby and Russell halls that students appreciate increased bathroom privacy and updated amenities, which we will continue to offer as we renovate Creswell,” said Linda Kasper, executive director for University Housing.

The project will begin with exploratory work in summer 2025, with full construction starting in May 2027.

The extensive renovation will include:

  • Complete overhaul of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Enhanced community bathrooms with improved privacy features
  • Upgraded elevators and improved ADA accessibility
  • Modern shared spaces including floor kitchenettes and a larger community kitchen
  • Innovative laundry facilities that double as student lounge areas
  • Redesigned double rooms featuring natural light and adjustable furniture
  • Exterior maintenance and improvements including new windows and aesthetic modernization
