Hundreds gathered outside Athens City Hall Monday afternoon, to protest billionaire Elon Musk’s role in President Donald Trump’s administration along with massive cuts to federal funding. The rally is one of many taking place in every state in the nation.
Iva King is one of the co-leaders for Indivisible Georgia District 10, the local chapter of the national Indivisible Action Committee, which organized the protests.

“I think people are more angry and I think people are shocked by how quickly things have gone,” according to King. “And as you can see based on a lot of these signs, people are especially unhappy with Elon Musk, who was not elected President.”

Bonnie Tappin attended the event. She also takes issue with Musk’s access to the federal government. “I’m here today to protest the takeover of our government by a non-elected person,” Tappin said. “I protest against the deportation without reason and against the takeover or our civil workers.” According to King, 400 new Indivisible chapters have been created in the wake of the election of President Trump.
