Black publishing in Georgia: Honoring the Legacy of Robert Sengstacke Abbott

As a part of UGA’s Spring 2025 Signature Lecture Series a panel discussion will be held at the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Libraries to discuss the importance of Black journalist in the media and honor Robert Sengstacke Abbott.

A panel discussion will be hosted on Tuesday, February 18 at the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Libraries at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event will also pay tribute to Robert Sengstacke Abbott induction to the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame back in 2024.

Speakers at this event will discuss the history and significance of Black media and the impact it had on Black communities. The panel will feature Rick Dunn Sr. (CEO, A-CC High School Completion Initiative Inc.), Greg Davis (Vice President, Davis Broadcasting of Atlanta) and Nick Chiles (Writer in Residence, Grady College of Journalism).

This event is free admission and open to the public. Following the event, a light reception will be held in the exhibition hallway. The University of Georgia Libraries is an underwriter at WUGA radio station.
