Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock joined several of his Senate colleagues in a media conference to express their opposition to a Republican proposal to cut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid.

“They are busy trying to pass a tax cut for the wealthiest people in America, billionaires and millionaires and they’re doing it on the backs of ordinary people” According to Warnock. “This cannot stand, and so we will continue to hold them accountable and we encourage all of our constituents to hold them accountable.”

Medicaid covers 1 in 5 people living in the United States, including nearly half of all children and over 8 million seniors. New Hampshire Senator Maggie Hassan.

“These Medicaid cuts will hurt people in communities in every corner of the country,” Hassan said. “These cuts will harm millions of families across the country. People who matter and they depend on Medicaid every single day.”

Opponents of the cuts say the move would jeopardize rural hospitals. Over 12 million rural Americans rely on Medicaid for health care. More than two million Georgians use Medicaid.

Proposals include adding a work requirement for benefits and limiting the amount per-person paid by the federal government.
