The state house has voted in favor of annual tracking the use of Artificial Intelligence by Georgia agencies.
Supporters of House Bill 147 say the measure will promote responsible and transparent use of Artificial Intelligence by state agencies. It would require annual monitoring of the use of AI. Representative Brad Thomas sponsored the legislation.
“This does two major things, one, it creates the definition of Artificial Intelligence for the state of Georgia, that’s now considered the gold standard across the United States,” Thomas said. “Many state have adopted this same language that we developed last year.”
Thomas added that the bill would involve increased oversight.
“Secondly, it mandates that the Georgia Technology Authority take an active role in overseeing AI applications, specifically a comprehensive annual inventory and survey catalog. It requires that AI system is assessed for its impact before its implemented.”
The bill passed unanimously.
