Every three years, utility companies must get an Integrated Resource Plan approved by Georgia’s Public Service Commission. These plans outline utility companies’ energy portfolios and how much customers will be charged.

A group of local governments plans to intervene during the approval process for Georgia Power’s next IRP—including Athens-Clarke County. At Tuesday night’s agenda setting meeting, the ACC Commission discussed endorsing the goals of the Coalition of Local Governments as the IRP approval process approaches this Spring.

Commissioner Carol Myers represents the 8th District in Athens-Clarke County. She sat down with WUGA’s Emma Auer to discuss her stance on the county’s energy goals.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
