There’s still time to support the Athens Regional library’s annual Bling Your Prom event. Elizabeth Hood is the Teen Services Regional Coordinator at the library. She explains how the process works.
“Bling Your Prom is an annual formal wear drive and boutique style event that invites teens from in and around Athens-Clarke County to come and choose a free formal ensemble for their spring events from community donations,” According to Hood.
Donations for the event are being accepted through March 1st. Hood says there is a wide range of items needed for teens to prepare for prom.
“So, we are looking for men’s and women’s formal wear, accessories, jewelry, formal shoes, new, unused cosmetics, and hair products.”
Other types of contributions are also welcome.
“If you have service or store coupons to donate and then paper shopping bags and tissue paper so that we can wrap everything up nice.”
Teens from Athens and the surrounding area are invited to Bling Your Prom on Friday, March 7th and Saturday, March 8th.
“This has been a great event for us,’ Hood said. “The community has really come together to support our youth. It’s been amazing to see and in years past we’ve seen up to 150 teens, sometimes more, come away with either parts of or a complete outfit for prom.”
The Bling your Prom event is taking place at the library’s Baxter Street location.
