After years of legal battles and delays, Georgia’s Public Service Commission elections are back on the calendar. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has scheduled special elections for PSC Districts 2 and 3 on November 4, 2025. The primaries will be held on June 17, 2025, with runoffs, if necessary, on July 15 for primaries and December 2 for the general election. Candidates must qualify between April 1 and April 3.
The PSC regulates utilities across the state, overseeing energy, gas, and telecommunications policies that directly impact consumer bills. The commission’s decisions, including recent discussions on Georgia Power’s plan to keep coal plants running amid rising electricity demand, make these elections particularly significant.
Election delays stemmed from legal challenges over voting methods, with a court ruling that the statewide system diluted Black voter influence. A later appeals court decision overturned this ruling, allowing elections to proceed.
For voters, registration deadlines are May 19 for the primaries and October 6 for the general election. Early voting begins May 27 and October 14, respectively.
With key regulatory decisions ahead, the 2025 elections will determine the future of Georgia’s energy policies and consumer protections.
