During President Donald Trump’s address to Congress Tuesday night, the president acknowledged the family of slain nursing student Laken Riley. She was killed while taking a run on the University of Georgia Campus in February 2024. A Venezuelan man, Jose Ibarra, who was in the country illegally was convicted of her murder.
“Last year I told Laken’s grieving parents that we would ensure their daughter would not have died in vain.”
The Laken Riley Act was first piece of legislation signed by President Trump into law during his current administration.
