Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the amended budget for Fiscal Year 2025 Thursday morning. The spending plan includes relief for Georgians suffering damage from Hurricane Helene, another round of tax refunds, and one-time investments.
“My goal working with the members of the General Assembly who have been such strong supporters in these measures has been to help Georgians fighting through 40-year-high inflation,” Kemp said.
“To give them a chance during these challenging times to keep their businesses going and provide for their families by putting more money in their pockets. And to help them and their children have good-paying jobs by developing an environment that attracts business and opportunity.”
Some of the big-ticket items included in the measure are more $867 million for costs and relief for hurricane Helene, $434 million for public safety and corrections, over a billion dollars for infrastructure, and another tax rebate for Georgia taxpayers.
“As we all know too well, inflation may have come down, but high prices haven’t. And that’s why this budget includes 1 billion dollars for another one-time refund for hardworking taxpayers.”
The measure also includes $50 million for school safety measures. It covers the remaining months of the current budget year ending June 30.
