The Athens Free Clinic has connected uninsured residents with medical students and full-time staff since 2018. This month, the organization announced a major milestone: it has now provided more than $1 million worth of free medical care.

Dr. Suzanne Lester, Medical Director of the Athens Free Clinic and Clarke Middle Health Center—and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Augusta University–University of Georgia Medical Partnership—spoke with WUGA’s Alexia Ridley about what this milestone means for the clinic and the Athens community.

Here’s that conversation.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
