ACCGov Hosting Informational Events During National Fair Housing Month

As part of National Fair Housing Month and National Community Development week, the Athens-Clarke County Housing and Community Development Department is hosting a series of informational events.

A Tenant’s Rights Forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th, at the Dougherty Street governmental building auditorium from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. An attorney with the Georgia Legal Services Program will provide information on housing laws and protections. Housing standards and the local code enforcement process will also be discussed.

Athens Clarke-County Housing and Community Development Department Director, Melinda Lord.

“So we celebrate National Fair Housing Month in April to commemorate the passing of the Fair Housing Act that took place on April 11th of 1968,” Lord said. “This act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, or disability.”

A Fair Housing Rights Lunch and Learn will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd at the ACC Library from 10 am until noon. The final event, a community Development Resource Fair, will take place on Saturday, April 26th, at the library from 10 am until 2 pm.

“We’re hopeful that these events are going to showcase HCD’s dedication to supporting residents of our community.”

All events are free and open to the public.
