State Legislature creates study committees to revisit key issues over the summer

Some Georgia lawmakers will be working this summer and fall on unfinished business left over from this year’s General Assembly.

House Speaker Jon Burns has announced the creation of three blue-ribbon study committees to consider further reforms to Georgia’s election procedures and examine the state’s hemp policies and insurance rates.

The committees will meet to gather facts, hear from stakeholders, and determine a path forward for the 2026 legislative session.

Lawmakers failed to pass legislation this year addressing election reform, a ban on beverages containing intoxicating hemp-derived components, and measures to ensure the state’s insurance market operates fairly and transparently.
