The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an inmate at the Athens-Clarke County Jail. According to a release from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, while conducting routine checks before breakfast service, jail staff found an unresponsive 39-year African American male.
Staff performed emergency life-saving measures until EMS arrived and transferred the patient to the hospital. He was pronounced deceased shortly before 10 am.
It is protocol to have the GBI investigate the incident.
