In addition to celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Goodwill of North Georgia recently received a $700,000 grant. The funds will support a job training program for Athens-area residents returning from the criminal justice system.
Goodwill LifeLaunch: Growth Opportunities 4 Program hopes to serve at least 85 young adults with the federal grant. The program will offer participants skill training and certification in industries like welding, supply chain management, and customer service.
Jenny Taylor is the Vice President of Career Services and Chief Mission Officer of Goodwill of North Georgia. She says the program aligns with their mission of helping people find employment.
“Goodwill of North Georgia’s mission is a simple one—to put people to work, and we’ve been doing it for 100 years, and that means everyone. If someone wants to work, we’re going to be able to support them in their journey. People need the dignity and power of work. ”
Goodwill’s program will also address employment and education barriers by providing wrap around services to participants. Taylor:
“Sometimes that means a bus pass. Sometimes that means a gas card. Sometimes that means childcare.”
The program is open to 18-24 year-old residents in Athens-Clarke, Madison, and Elbert Counties who have previous experience with the criminal justice system.
Goodwill of North Georgia serves 45 counties with over 100 stores and donation centers.
