GBI Investigating Death of a Clarke County Jail Inmate

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a Clarke County inmate. A release from the Sheriff’s Office states on the afternoon of May 5, staff were alerted to a 32-year-old African American male with an unknown medical issue. When jail staff entered his cell, they found him unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel were called immediately. Emergency Medical Services, EMS and the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department arrived on the scene but were unable to resuscitate him. It is protocol for the GBI to investigate such incidents.
