Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed a slate of legislation into law on Thursday. During one of two signing ceremonies, the Governor signed several bills into law focused on improving public safety.
“The bills I will sign today support that goal and ensure that those who put themselves in harm’s way have the technology and support that they need to fulfill this mission,” Kemp said.
He also signed Senate Bill 185, which prohibits the use of state funds from being used for sex reassignment surgery, hormone replacement therapies, or cosmetic surgery for inmates.
“Taxpayer dollars should not be used for procedures like this. This legislation codifies that commonsense step.”
Several Democrats opposed the measure.
During the second signing ceremony on Thursday afternoon, Kemp signed a hurricane relief bill to provide financial assistance to the state’s agriculture and timber industries.
“We knew from the morning after Hurricane Helene hit, that it would take a coordinated effort from all levels of government to support those impacted by this historic storm,” according to Kemp. “In the months since, we have never wavered in working toward that goal and I’m proud today’s bill signings will provide further relief. The road to recovery has been long and it will continue to be long.”
Kemp also signed a bill providing consumer protection from predatory contractors following natural disasters.
