Two arson suspects have been arrested following a surveillance stakeout by firefighters from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department.
Earlier this week, two fires were set in the men’s and women’s restrooms at Southeast Clarke Park off Lexington Road. An ACC police officer discovered the burned restrooms when he arrived for a training exercise early in the morning on May 20.
Fire Department Corporal Adam Gardner reported Thursday that the area was placed under surveillance for two consecutive nights by firefighters assigned to the Fire Marshal’s Office. On the morning of May 22, the suspects returned and police were called to the scene. Both suspects, who have not been identified pending arraignment, were charged with felony arson in the second degree.
