Athens Area Diaper Bank hosts spring getaway raffle

The Athens Area Diaper Bank is holding its third annual spring getaway raffle to support the work of distributing diapers to the families in need in the community. Erin Campbell is the founder and executive director of the nonprofit.

“Diaper need describes when a family cannot provide enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry, and healthy for all the days and nights,” according to Campbell. “So, diaper need right now across the country is a problem that nearly one in two families face. When we look at the Athens area, which is our service area of Athens-Clarke County and the adjacent counties, there are over 8,000 children at risk of experiencing diaper need.”

Campbell says diaper need can have multiple impacts, including physical health of the child, mental health of the caregiver, and economic concerns.

“When families struggle to afford diapers, they are often faced with having to choose between buying diapers or buying food or spending that money on utilities or transportation. The big, ultimate kick in the pants for families is that when they struggle to afford enough diapers, they cannot leave their child at daycare. Daycares require a certain number of diapers per day.”

Winners have a choice of staying at Chateau Elan or the Athenian. Winners will be selected on Saturday, May 24th. Visit www.athensareadiaperbank.com for more information.
