Georgia Republicans re-elect Josh McKoon as GOP chairman at annual convention

Georgia Sen. Josh McKoon, R - Columbus, speaks in favor of a bill allowing concealed handguns on public college campuses at the Capitol in Atlanta, Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Tuesday's Senate vote, 32 to 22, sends the bill to the House for final review. House approval will send the bill to Gov. Nathan Deal, setting up another difficult decision for the Republican who vetoed a similar measure last year. (AP Photo/David Goldman)

Georgia Republicans have re-elected Josh McKoon as their chairman during an annual gathering, this year in Dalton.

While a believed to be unenforceable resolution banning Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger did pass, the event that drew about 1,700 delegates did not create any headlines.

No one unexpectedly declared their candidacy for the U.S. Senate or for the smorgasbord of other seats that have opened up, or appear to possibly be open, as the incumbents either launch or consider a run for higher office.

Speakers included U.S. Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Mike Collins, and candidates for various state offices including PSC contender Tim Echols, Buddy Carter, who’s taking on U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, and State Senators John Kennedy and Steve Gooch, who are running for lieutenant governor.

McKoon handily won re-election as chairman, taking nearly 64% of the 1,666 votes tallied for the chairmanship.
