Companies such as Georgia Power and Jackson EMC have restored power to hundreds of thousands of homes after a fierce summer storm this past weekend. Starting Saturday, June 7, the storm swept through the state and caused significant damage across several counties.
Georgia Power has reported that its storm restoration crews have helped over 190,000 customers regain power in heavily impacted areas such as Athens, Alpharetta and Rome. Jackson EMC states that it has restored power to more than 45,000 of its members. As of 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, only 627 Jackson EMC members remained without power.
In spite of the progress, both companies also warn those in affected areas that dangerous conditions may still exist. Fallen trees and downed power lines should always be avoided.
At this time, it is strongly advised that those in storm-affected areas adhere to the instructions of local, state and federal emergency authorities.
