On June 10th, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government Mayor and Commission appointed Stephanie Thompson as the next Municipal Court Judge and Administrative Hearing Officer.
The appointment follows Thompson’s ten years of work with the Hall County Solicitor General’s Office. Outside of the office, she has also worked with Hall County’s Domestic Violence Task Force since 2016, serving as vice chair and chair.
“I am grateful to the appointing authorities, my mentors, colleagues, family, and the community for their support,” Thompson says. She also says that she is, “committed to working hard every day to earn and honor that trust.”
Her appointment comes after the resignation of former Municipal Judge Marcy Jolles in March 2025. Thompson will handle Athens-Clarke County ordinance violations, state misdemeanor traffic violations, and certain state misdemeanor crimes.
Thompson’s two-year appointment will begin on July 1, 2025.
