An extremely low turnout is being reported so far for the off-year, summertime elections for the Public Service Commission.
The AJC reports about half a percent of registered voters had voted in nearly two and a half weeks of early voting so far, which equates to about 45,000 ballots cast out of 8.4 million registered voters in Georgia.
Early voting lasts until June 13. Election Day for the partisan primaries is June 17, followed by runoffs, if necessary, on July 15. The general election will be held Nov. 4.
The Public Service Commission sets the rates monopoly utilities can charge for electricity and gas. Two seats are up for election, and candidates must live in specific districts, while all Georgia voters can vote for both seats.
