Thousands show up for 'No Kings' protest downtown

Protesters endured the heat and the rain Saturday to join the nationwide demonstration against President Trump.

On Saturday June 14th, approximately 3,000 protesters filled the college square plaza in support of No Kings Day. Protesters filled both sides of the street and the median in front of the University of Georgia arch.

Counter protesters arrived early to the event to show their support for President Trump and to pray that there would be no violence, referencing the protests in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The collaborative efforts of Indivisible, The Oconee County Democrats, and several other local Athens organizations resulted in a peaceful demonstration against what protestors referred to as the Trump regime.

The No Kings protesters remained civil throughout despite the rain and a counter protester attempting to crowd the stage.
