“Georgia Flora” mural along Athens Greenway revealed

Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services has announced local artist Amanda Burk has completed the public mural as a funded part of SPLOST2011.

The mural, “Georgia Flora,” was completed June 18th by UGA alum and long-time Athens resident, Amanda Burk. Burk has created murals for Automatic Pizza, Half-Shepherd Market, Paloma Park, and more.

Burk’s design was chosen through blind selection by a community panel; her work was one of 25 proposals submitted in a nationwide call. “Georgia Flora” is a 100-foot-long mural which features images of flowers associated with the state of Georgia.

The project was funded through SPLOST2011 Project #09-Greenway Connectors. Per the local ordinance, 1% of capital expenditures are used for public art.

To see the mural, it’s installed along the Greenway’s East Campus Connector, but can also be seen from the Inner Loop on-ramp at Lexington Road.
