Local government seeks input on making streets safer

Nicole Jordan

In 2025, five traffic accidents in Clarke County have been fatal, according to the Athens–Clarke County Police Department. Local government is seeking public input to make the county’s streets safer.

Clarke County has reported over a thousand crashes this year alone. Athens-Clarke County Government’s Safe Streets and Roads for All project began last year and seeks to improve this number. Funded by a federal grant, the project aims to develop strategies to reduce roadway injuries and deaths.

Last fall, local government sought input from residents about which roadways seemed the most unsafe. Now, it is asking residents to submit their opinions and ideas about solutions. The online survey is open until August 3rd, and asks residents which types of traffic calming measures they would like to see around the county.

The survey can be found at www.accgov.com/safestreets.
