Georgia Power customers protected from electricity disconnections during severe heat advisories

Georgia Power

With summer’s blistering heat already in Georgia, a reminder that Georgia Power cannot disconnect electric service for non-payment during extreme heat advisories.

It’s based on a rule set by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) that offers temporary protection with the caveat that once the advisory ends, disconnections may resume.

For customers at risk of disconnection, the PSC encourages contacting Georgia Power to set up a payment arrangement.

Additionally, the PSC’s Consumer Affairs office can help eligible customers access payment assistance through local social service organizations.
