The US Senate passed the budget proposed by Republicans Tuesday. The bill passed along partisan lines, with US Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.
Both Democratic Georgia Senators criticized the bill after its passage. Senator John Ossoff said the bill risks gutting the Medicaid program, which provides health insurance for low income Americans and people with disabilities.

“This bill will push hospitals and nursing homes to the financial brink. It will result in substantial increases in health insurance premiums for hundreds of thousands of Georgians and risk hundreds of thousands of Georgians losing health insurance altogether,” he said.

Majority Leader Senator John Thune (R-SD) celebrated the passage of the bill.

“With this legislation, we’re fulfilling the mandate we were entrusted with last November, and setting our country, and the American people, up to be safer, stronger, and more prosperous,” he said.

The bill will need to pass the House of Representatives before going to President Donald Trump’s desk.
