An Athens man has been arrested in connection with a fatal DUI. Shortly after 2 AM on July 13, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of North Thomas Street and East Hancock Avenue.

Police say 21-year-old Steven Ford was driving his truck and while attempting a left hand turn onto East Hancock, he drove into the path of a motorcycle being driven by Jennifer McKillip. She was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Ford is charged with DUI-Alcohol, Homicide by Vehicle in the 1st Degree, and Failure to Yield While turning left.

This is the sixth fatal crash, resulting in seven deaths in Athens-Clarke County in 2025.
