Athens-Clarke County will join hundreds of communities around the nation taking part in Good Trouble Live On protests on Thursday. The name comes from a phrase used by the late Representative and civils rights icon, John Lewis, who urged “good trouble, necessary trouble” to bring about change during the Civil Rights Movement. Thursday marks the fifth anniversary of Lewis’ death.
According to Indivisible GA District 10, the gathering will take place at the intersection of Baxter Street and Alps Road. Attendees are encouraged to bring water and a chair if needed. The protest takes place from 12:30 to 1:30, with a teach-in at the Athens-Clarke County Library from 11 am until 12:15 pm.
Organizers are also collecting canned goods, dry foods, kibble and other non-perishable items for the Athens Food Bank and the Athens Area Humane Society.
