New State House study committee formed to consider changes to state voting system

Daniel Vorndran

Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns has empaneled a new study committee to consider more changes to the state’s voting system.

The Blue Ribbon Study Committee on Election Procedures is being led by Covington Representative Tim Fleming and met for the first time last week. Some attending criticized various options for casting a ballot in Georgia, citing cost.

Questions were raised about Georgia’s participation in the ERIC system, a multistage data-sharing pact designed to root out voters who cast ballots in more than one state. The electronic Dominion voting system was at the center of most complaints, with issues over its security.

Democrats and supporters cautioned against passing new election laws that are based upon rumors about rigged elections.
