On Thursday, the newest member of the state Supreme Court was sworn in.
Governor Brian Kemp presided over the swearing in of new Georgia Supreme Court Justice Ben Land. Justice Land is filling the vacancy on the court created by the retirement of Judge Michael Boggs. Land vowed to work together with his new colleagues.
“If we disagree, we will work out those differences and we’ll do it cordially, civilly, and in a polite fashion, that’s my word,” according to Land. “If we disagree, you’ll get a dissent, and it will be civil and it will be cordial. But I am honored to be working along side you and you have my word that I will do it the right way to the very best of my ability.”
Land also addressed Georgia resident during Thursday’s ceremony.
"To the citizens of the state, I promise the delivery of justice for each and every one of them who find themselves in our courtroom. Lady Justice is blindfolded for a reason, and I offer the impartiality that is demanded by our system of justice."
Justice Land has served on the court of appeals since July 2022, after being appointed by Governor Kemp.
