For the third consecutive year, UGA has ranked first in bringing the most commercial products to market based on university research.
According to an annual survey conducted by AUTM (formerly the Association of University Technology Managers), the University of Georgia industry partners and startups developed 69 products through research for fiscal year 2024.
The products range from poultry vaccines, biodegradable plastics and virtual reality tools for disaster preparedness. UGA-affiliated research also resulted in the development of new plant varieties of turfgrass, blueberries, wheats and peanuts.
Over the last decade, UGA has ranked among the top two universities for research products brought to the market. They have also never placed outside the top five in the 12 years the survey has been conducted.
The university has also been ranked fourth among universities for active licenses in the industry, marking its 18th consecutive year in the top ten. UGA’s Innovation Gateway, a hub for technology transfer and startup support, works closely with faculty to protect intellectual property and license technology.
Additionally, for the first time, the university has exceeded $600 million in annual research and development for fiscal year 2024.
