On Friday, State Rep. Buddy Carter, of Georgia’s 1st Congressional District, introduced the “ERIC ADAMS” Act in light of the murder of Laken Riley.

The Act, “ERIC ADAMS,” stands for Establishing Responsibility for Illegals’ Crimes and Adding Deterrence and Accountability for Mayors’ Sanctuary cities.

The bill would hold mayors of sanctuary cities accountable for murders committed by illegal immigrants in their jurisdiction. Under this bill, mayors who fail to comply with federal law enforcement related to illegal immigration crimes could face up to 7 years in prison.

The bill comes after the murder of Laken Riley, who was killed by Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan who had entered the United States illegally.
