Former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley announced Monday, August 4th that he will be running for U.S. senate with the intention of taking incumbent Jon Osoff’s seat. Dooley is the son of the late Vince Dooley who coached the University of Georgia Bulldogs from 1964 to 1988.

As it stands Dooley will face state representatives Mike Collins (58) and Buddy Carter (67) in the republican primaries. Dooley has been endorsed by Governor Kemp however, President Trump has not yet backed a candidate.

Dooley has never held elected office before but he has hired many of Governor Kemp’s aides to work on his team. As he puts it his platform focuses on “good, old fashioned Georgia common sense.”
