From business owner to voting commissioner, community weighs in on UGA President’s House redevelopment

An iconic Athens antebellum home is at risk for demolition—at least, that’s what preservationists are saying about the University of Georgia’s President’s House. But—a developer has promised to preserve it…by putting a hotel in its backyard. WUGA’s Emma Auer brings us this story about how efforts to preserve one of Athens’ massive historic homes are clashing with skeptical neighbors.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish.
