Georgia’s Senators are taking on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr over his handling of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a press conference Thursday morning, ahead of Kennedy testifying before the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Jon Ossoff called on Kennedy to resign.

“It is one thing to be a sceptic or a reformer, it is quite another to be a fool and a wrecking ball, and the destruction of the CDC in Georgia, the systematic dismantling of American public health is putting children and families across the country at risk every single day, “according to Ossoff.
Kennedy defended his decision to make cuts.

“We are the sickest country in the world,” he said. “That’s why we have to fire people at CDC. They did not do their job. This was their job to keep us healthy.”
During an afternoon virtual presser, fellow Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock called for Kennedy’s firing.

“It is abundantly clear that Secretary Kennedy is unfit for this position,” Warnock stated. “Not only do I think he’s unqualified, but he’s proven to be dangerous, and completely unserious.”

As of August 21, 2025, approximately 600 CDC employees received termination notices. Some may have been reinstated or offered early retirement incentives.
